We are now an Anti-Bullying Ambassador School for The Diana Award

Anti-bullying Training Session run by The Diana Award

On 24th November 2022, 10 pupils took part in a one-day anti-bullying training session run by The Diana Award at Campsmount Academy. Young people, aged 8-11, worked together and acquired vital skills to enable them to change the attitudes and behaviours of bullying by building their skills and confidence to address different situations, both off and online.

The Diana Award’s free Anti-Bullying Ambassador Programme, which is available to schools across the UK, sees trainers working with students and other young people to change the attitude surrounding bullying both across the UK and beyond. The programme has a strong peer-to-peer focus, with trainers giving young people the skills and confidence to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors to tackle bullying in their schools long after the training has finished. The Diana Award’s anti-bullying work is recognised as world-class thanks to this sustainable approach.

The training looked at bullying in different situations including face-to-face and online. At the end of the day, pupils made an action plan of how to approach bullying issues that may arise in our school and committed to their roles as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors.

About The Diana Award

The Diana Award is supported by TRHs The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex and is the only charity in memory of Princess Diana and her belief that young people have the power to change the world. The youth charity fosters, develops and inspires positive change in the lives of young people through three programmes, which include: a mentoring programme for young people at risk, a youth-led anti-bullying campaign and a prestigious award which publicly recognises young people – The Diana Award.

About The Diana Award’s Anti-Bullying Campaign

The Diana Award's Anti-Bullying Campaign involves several projects aimed at reducing bullying in schools. One of its main projects is the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme, which has trained over 33,000 young people as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors across the UK to lead anti-bullying campaigns in their schools.

As part of your child’s education at Scawsby Junior Academy, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a diverse, inclusive and inspiring comprehensive PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, Economic) curriculum using the Jigsaw scheme of learning.  This subject area gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

The Department for Education announced changes to relationships and sex education (RSE), which is part of our programme of study.  These changes came into effect in September 2020 and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements.

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring our PSHE curriculum is appropriate to our pupils’ needs based on their age, physical and emotional maturity, religious and cultural backgrounds and special educational needs and disabilities, we would like you to complete a review and ask for parents’ voice and opinions.

We would like to invite you:

  • To take the opportunity to view our current PSHE policy and curriculum intentions
  • Complete a questionnaire in order for your feedback to be captured

A huge thank you to everyone who donated their old clothes in our Bags2School initiative.  We raised £68 to go towards vital school funds.  Not only have you helped to support your child’s school, this also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away for landfill sites. We will let you know when our next Bags2School collection is.

At Scawsby Junior Academy, our children realise the importance of following our school RESPECT values.  These values help us at school in so many ways.  They help to prevent bullying, they help us be a better friend,  they give us empathy towards children with different needs so we can show our understanding, they help us be a better citizen and prepare us for adulthood, we understand to never give up, they help us set new goals and challenges but most of all, they help us be US.
